Seaside Residence

A contemporary seaside home nr. Seaton

The Brief

Our brief for this project was to refresh this family home with a modern, stylish look and provide the latest in technology for our clients from the Home Counties.

The Story

The house itself was constructed in the 1980’s and had spent many years as a holiday rental property – it was now tired and in need of some repairs to heating and plumbing systems in addition to the refreshing of the interiors. The slate hung balconies to the front elevation were clad in plywood which was warping and in general the seaward facing side of the property was in poor condition having suffered many winters of direct exposure to the sea and wind.

The task would be to assemble and manage a capable team of tradesmen in order to schedule the order of works following approval of the designs by our clients (and also local building control). Good communication was the key for us to successfully design, manage and supply all aspects of the work, with the majority of contact between our clients and ourselves being made at a distance by email. Our work was to include the removal and replacement of tired timber and slate balcony structures with contemporary stainless steel and Douglas Fir replacements. As well as the balconies, new Garage doors and Front Door were designed by Stylehome and sourced via a local Joinery company.

Night storage heaters were removed and replaced with wireless controlled underfloor systems to compliment stylish Amtico fooring which would cover them. New interiors were designed throughout, including removal of some partition walls to make the Lounge/Kitchen/Dining Room into one superb large space so that everyone could benefit from the stunning top floor view.

The Stylehome Solution

Furniture and fabrics were selected to give a fresh, seaside feel that is sophisticated yet still comfortable and not sharp, many fabrics being sourced from America to suit the clients taste. Selections were made to give a fresh, seaside feel that is sophisticated yet still comfortable.

Some internal walls were removed to create open plan spaces, the furniture then incorporated in such a way as to ensure that the maximum benefit was made from the space… whilst never ignoring the stunning sea views.

Stylehome had collected the keys to the property from the vendors estate agent when our client completed the purchase, and these were then handed to the client (all be it with a new front door attached!) with the project completed, on time and on budget.

… a true “turn-key” solution!

"that looks fantastic, we can't wait to get down there on Friday - thanks again for all your help/professionalism, always a pleasure to deal with you"
