Stylehome were asked to design, specify, supply and manage the refurbishment of this lovely property, with a view to making the interiors attractive to the holiday letting market. “Chygowlin” had previously been used only as a family home, but now it required being brought up to date with modern ideas and schemes.
Our Clients wished to avoid wholesale change for change sake and desired new interiors which retained the charm of the building and used existing fittings where possible.
At an early stage it was realised that some rooms and passageways would benefit from bring changed in size in order to make more practical use of space, along with complete modernisation of bathrooms, replacement flooring and LED lighting throughout in particular. The property was generally in good order but would require largely redecorating throughout as well as new furniture and window dressings. As our clients lived out of the country Stylehome were asked to recommend sub-contractors and undertake full management for the project, working to an Easter 2018 deadline in order that the property could be listed as available as soon as possible.
Bespoke furniture was designed and produced to resolve issues with space and make the most of the available room to provide storage for guests. Special, acoustic deadening floor treatments would be used on the first floor to remove troublesome noise issues and the layout of corridors improved to create private landings and add storage space to the bedrooms.
Drawings and sampling was provided to the clients for discussion remotely and inspiration boards presented when it was possible to meet on site and talk through the proposed solutions.
Interiors were designed which would give colour and interest as well as having references either to existing facets of the building or the stunning views to the extensive gardens. Practical (but still beautiful!) floor coverings and window dressings were selected and specified, along with feature lighting and high quality, high spring count divan beds with bespoke upholstery. All lighting was replaced with low running cost LED, feature lighting added for artwork, radiators were relocated where necessary to improve the aspect of the rooms, and the primary bathrooms were removed and redesigned – with the family bathroom being increased in size to provide space for a feature bath and separate shower.
Now, the open living space flows to create a calm and relaxing ambiance, you can sink into the large and comfy sofa in the sitting-room while enjoying the garden views or the flickering flames of the wood-burner. Down two steps into the large kitchen/diner you will have your dreams fulfilled, this gorgeous room has a handsome kitchen that will meet all your culinary needs, a dining-table for eight and doors opening onto the patio. There is a traditional wood-fired Esse stove should you wish to try your hand at cooking your breakfast on it or simply warm your toes. There’s no shortage of relaxing spots to sit, the conservatory has a squishy sofa where you can watch the birds and other wildlife.
